Loyalty
Bible Text: 2 Samuel 15: 10-11; 1 Corinthians 4:2
Loyalty is a feeling or attitude of devotion to a person, organization or objective.
Many gifted and talented people are failing and living below their potential because of lack of good character. The
challenges and the corruption we face in our society is as a result of massive loss of value in our society. It is a big problem if we as a people lack moral values.
Cheating and lack of integrity has become so attractive in our country because there are people or organisation in the society who seems to be prospering through such means and are not suffering for what they have done; however things are not going to remain the same forever.
God’s principles and standards never change; one of the things that people don’t pay attention to, but the bible lays emphasis on is faithfulness. God creates opportunities for people in organisations, relationships and business and many people just blow it up because of disloyalty.
Sometimes we have people trapped on a job, unable to keep a job or unable to rise on the job; a lot of these issues come as a result of been disloyal to their assignment, people or work which GOD has sent them per time.
It was disloyalty that cost Satan his place in heaven; disloyalty caused Judas Iscariot to betray Jesus and made him loose his seat among the apostles. Sometimes when we are becoming disloyal we don’t know, because it is a subtle thing; it is something that happens gradually and slowly.
You have to love your boss genuinely in order to avoid disloyalty. The day you realize that you cannot be totally loyal to your company, is the day you should resign. Ultimately, it is the person who is disloyal that suffers and not the
organization.
Signs of Disloyalty
- Independent spirit: One of the signs of disloyalty is a show of Independent spirit. Some people feel you are foolish or stupid when you follow instruction to the letter. I recall when I was serving in another ministry with my brother. We were trying to keep the rules of the ministry, but others were not until one day a man walked up to me and said “you and your brother are the good boys of this ministry and your reward is in heaven”.
- Offence: In 2 Samuel 13, Absalom was hurt because his sister Tamar was raped by Amnon and their father, David, did do anything about it. He refused to forgive Amnon, which eventually led him to commit murder.
- Unusual quietness or been passive: is a sign of disloyalty, when someone who talks and contributes regularly at official meetings starts to keep quiet in the office etc. 2 Samuel 13:224.
- Criticism: Absalom began by criticising his father’s leadership style 2 Samuel 15:1-6. It’s disloyalty for us to begin to criticise the organisation or men we work for. Most times it’s the disloyal employee that losses ultimately because God will always take side with your employer.
- Politics: If you are working under another leader and people around are praising you unnecessary then you need to be very careful. Also trying to buy people’s loyalty away from your boss or to split the group you work in is dangerous. Along with politics is self-deception then comes full rebellion and God hates rebellion 1 Samuel 15:23 In order to stay loyal, you must determine to love your boss genuinely, seek to walk in honesty and endeavour to resolve issues quickly. Lastly, you must learn to ask the Holy Spirit to help you
